Another Story of Love

-

Diego is a twenty-year-old Chilean boy who spends every day taking pictures of anything he sees. After many years he meets Sebastian, his childhood friend, and they spend a whole summer together drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana and walking around in the blazing sun of Santiago. They both come from dysfunctional families (Diego's mother is an alcoholic and Sebastian feels abandoned by his father and his stepmother), but the need to discover the world around them and explore their inner feelings brings them closer to each other, making their friendship very, very intense. The desire that ties them to each other is palpable, and soon barriers and fears fall, leading them to wonder what they really want.

This is a nice movie. Two young men meet who had known each other as very young children. They enjoy reconnecting and spending time together. One has an interest in photography. The other is evidently vacationing in the area with his somewhat estranged father and new mother-in-law. It's not an oppressive setting, but one lacking in joy--a hot Chilean summer, an unwelcoming space with the father and new mother-in-law, and for Diego an alcoholic mother though they seem to have a decent relationship. Diego realizes he has a growing attraction to Sebastian and comes to accept it. His mother seems to get it as well. Love does not blossom between the two young men, but Diego seems to understand himself better and feel good about himself.
