Leslie Howard is just a little too theatrical in his portrayal of "Holger Brandt", an internationally renowned violinist who has a bit of a mid-life crisis as he falls for his beautiful piano accompanist - the truly winsome Ingrid Bergman. He decides to leave his wife and home in Sweden to pursue a life with her and they duly depart on a concert tour... The theme tune from Heinz Provost is up there with "The Glass Mountain" and "the Dream of Olwen" as a memorable, world class piano-led theme and it provides an excellent complement for this stylish and beautifully shot melodrama that has a curiously satisfactory, if largely inevitable, conclusion.
