On first blush, this film is apparently about the depressing subject of slaves in the modern world - a serious problem that is dealt with in other films also. But somewhere in the first act, and quite subtly, the story quietly shifts to the moral choices of the protagonist. We are carried along on his journey, and like him, begin to understand the perverted workings of our world. The story and film are brilliantly manipulative, and even the dirty cinematography serves the outcome. This is my first Moratto film. It won't be my last.
